If you have no idea what this feature is, you apparently keep good company. According to research firm Magid Associates, a whopping 30% of Xbox 360 owners report that they have “never even heard of” the Xbox Live Arcade. If their statistics were that 30% of people in general haven’t heard of the XBLA, I would obviously not find that newsworthy. But to have that percentage be among people who all own an Xbox 360 console, that information is puzzling.
I can understand not utilizing your console for anything not gaming related. An Xbox 360 can do all sorts of neat stuff when connected to other media devices such as computers and iPods. I don’t take advantage of some of the capabilities my 360 offers simply because I use it to game and only game (although I do occasionally watch movies on it). However to not take advantage of the gaming features on a console seems like a complete and utter waste to me.
The variety of games in the Xbox Live Arcade is astounding. There are several different genres along with brand new games and older classics as well. I am confident the vast majority of gamers can go on the Arcade and find some titles that appeal to him/her. According to Xbox.com, their current Top 10 Arcade Titles are as follows :
- Track & Field
- Spyglass Board Games
- Bomberman LIVE
- Sonic The Hedgehog
- Marathon: Durandal
- UNO
- Golden Axe
- Worms
- TMNT 1989 Arcade
- 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures
Right now for a limited time, Xbox.com is offering 2 free Arcade games with the purchase of an Xbox 360. This presents the perfect opportunity to check out this wonderful feature on your new console. Whether you a new owner or an old one, pop your head into the Arcade if you haven’t yet. All games are available to demo for free.
