Variety reports that Robert De Niro is teaming up again with Michael Mann on a movie adaptation of the novel The Winter of Frankie Machine, written by Don Winslow. This movie will have De Niro playing a mob hitman who retired to run a bait shop. Bad news: De Niro is cast as another mobster, again. Good news: There is a reason he always gets cast as a mobster, because he does a damn good job of playing one.
De Niro and Mann have worked together before, on Heat, which proved to be a good combo, and a solid movie. As long as De Niro talks like he always does, acts like he always does, and gives that cold chill look like he always does, then this mobster movie will likely be good… like they always are.
