Top 5 Villains

villains

This post marks the start of a new segment here at Difference in Opinion. Each week there will be a new set of Top 5 which pertain to movies or games. It could be the Top 5 Bond films, or it could be the Top 5 Nintendo Characters. Who knows? Please feel free to drop us an email at differenceinopinion@gmail.com with any ideas you may have for a Top 5 list you would like to see. For this week I decided to go with Top 5 Villains. I went off the beaten path and chose some unlikely villains that I always thought would exceptional. Hit the jump to see who made the cut.

villain1

I have always loved the look and feel of The Cell. Vincent D’Onofrio (most know for his lead role in Law & Order: Criminal Intent) does a great job of playing a creepy serial killer. He has to portray a variety of the killer’s emotions, from a uneasy man like he normally is, to a dominating demon as in the picture above.

villain2

Although many people didn’t like Hellboy, it is hard to deny how cool Kroenen is in the film. He spins his bladed weapons around with such grace, and always has the chilling calm about him. Although he never has a line in the entire film, his moves, looks and actions definitely speak for themselves.

villain3

Although Zorg may not be as chillingly evil as other villains, he definitely has a presence about him unique to his character. Gary Oldman does a great job with making Zorg the bad guy that is both funny, witty, sinister, and wicked.

villain4

I have been watching Dune since I was young and always loved Stings character in the movie, Feyd. Sting does a great job of playing the wicked Harkonnen. He chuckles with insanity and has this confident presence that makes him one of the slickest villains ever.

villain5

Lastly, but certainly not least is Batty. From the beginning to end of Blade Runner, his ill intentions are rather obvious. What sets him apart from your average villain is his attitude and grace. He has some of the smoothest and meaningful lines of any villain, and you feel a sense of sorrow for him in the end of the film.

Honorable Mentions: Darth Vader, Hannibal Lector and Bill the Butcher. Darth is a given, as is Hannibal. Bill the Butcher is an amazing villain who is beautifully portrayed by Daniel Day-Lewis in Gangs of New York.

More than anything, these Top 5 are for our readers to interact with us on. We would love to know why you might agree or disagree with our choices and would love to know what your Top 5 would be in the same category, so please tell us what you think.

Batty is probably the best character of the five, but best villain? I’d go with Feyd.

Personal top five would include Glenn Close in Dangerous Liaisons, Smith from The Matrix, Dennis Hopper in Blue Velvet, Brando in A Streetcar Named Desire and Bette Davis in What Ever Happened to Baby Jane. It’s a schizophrenic list, but there it is. :)

I thought about listing Smith and should have definitely put him in the Honorable Mentions. Interesting, yet great other choices.

  3. TTL Jericho says:

Dr. Hannibal Lecter -(Anthony Hopkins; Silence of the Lambs)
Hans Gruber - (Alan Rickman; Die Hard)
Dr. Smith - (Jonathan Harris; Lost in Space)
Sauraman - (Christopher Lee; Lord of the Rings)
Voldemort - (Ralph Fiennes; Harry Potter 5-7)

  4. Dweezle says:

Great choices Jericho. I love Ralph Fiennes and through about mentioning his character in Red Dragon. Christopher Lee and Alan Rickman are always solid as well.

  5. testa says:

    Brick Top (Snatch)
    Patrick Bateman (American Psycho)
    Michael Meyers (Halloween)

  6. Dweezle says:

Christian Bale does an amazing job as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. Nice choice testa!

    My top 5 Villains are:
Stewie - played Darth Vader in Family Guy: Blue Harverst.
Franky Four Fingers - played by Benicio Del Torro in SNATCH. (I thought he was really cute in that movie)
Lamia - played by Michelle Pfieffer in the movie, Stardust.
Mai - played by Maggie O in Live and Let die. Not much of a villain but I thought she did really good in that movie.

    There ya go! :)
